Laven­der is 39 species of flow­er­ing plants in the Lami­aceae fam­i­ly. Laven­der is native to the Old World and also grows in Cape Verde and the Canary Islands, south­ern Europe, north­ern and east­ern Africa, the Mediter­ranean, south­west­ern Asia, and south­east­ern India. Many types of laven­der are grown exten­sive­ly in tem­per­ate cli­mates, as orna­men­tals for gar­dens and land­scap­ing, and com­mer­cial­ly for essen­tial oils.
