The Dirtiest Man in the World

Amou Haji, or as peo­ple like to call him: The dirt­i­est man in the world is the first per­son in our his­to­ry who has­n’t bathed in 60 years. It’s a hell of a long time! Def­i­nite­ly, Had­ji could win the Guin­ness World Record if giv­en the oppor­tu­ni­ty. I can assume that the main ques­tion you would like to ask this man is “Why does­n’t he bathe?”

Amou Haji lives in iso­la­tion in the vil­lage of Dej­ga, in the south­ern Iran­ian province of Fars. The rea­son why he has not bathed for 60 years is amaz­ing. An 80-year-old man believes that clean­li­ness will bring him ill­ness. Haji can’t even stand con­tact with water — and talk­ing about the fact that he should swim makes him very angry. The result — the dirt­i­est man in the world is now the col­or of the Earth! It’s amaz­ing to see peo­ple com­mit­ted to sim­ple and nat­ur­al liv­ing.

Amou’s entire lifestyle fits his nick­name per­fect­ly. An old man can­not even dream of fresh food or clean water. Instead, he eats rot­ten por­cu­pine meat and drinks water from a rusty can. He drinks more than 5 liters of water a day. More dis­gust­ing­ly, instead of smok­ing tobac­co, he fills his smok­ing pipe with ani­mal excre­ment. What about the hair­cut? Amou prefers to burn her hair instead of cut­ting it. He also wears an old mil­i­tary hel­met to keep his head warm. Had­ji has no home. It lives in a hole dug in the ground. Here he is, the dirt­i­est man in the world.

The vil­lagers who built the shack for him say that Amou suf­fered severe emo­tion­al trau­ma in his youth. Per­haps this is the rea­son for his strange behav­ior.
